Women in AI Ethics™

Women make up nearly 50 percent of the global workforce but only account for a third of the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) workforce. This lack of diversity perpetuates gender stereotypes and shows up as bias in AI systems. In addition, the erasure of women and nonbinary people’s contributions to this critical field further undermines our progress towards a more inclusive and ethical tech future.

Since 2018, Women in AI Ethics™ (WAIE) has elevated the voices of experts from multidisciplinary backgrounds and showcased the role of diverse perspectives in responsible design and development of AI models and systems. WAIE publishes “100 Brilliant Women in AI Ethics™” list annually, offers free AI literacy classes at public libraries, and hosts expert talks on the most urgent issues in responsible AI as part of its mission to make this space more diverse, ethical, and inclusive.
